The History of Pics4Learning In 1995, members of Educational Design Studio were searching for some free to use images for a project and were surprised to find so few free photographic images available for teachers and students. They knew that there were thousands of photos in their family's photo albums, and they wanted to know if people were willing to contribute their images to non-profit educational purposes, so PhotoShare image library was born. PhotoShare, originally distributed in CD-ROM format, obtained an online homepage through work at Orange County Public School in Orlando, Florida in 1996. PhotoShare was nominated by Netscape for the Smithsonian Prize in Computer World and received the award in 1997. In 1999, Orange County Public Schools collaborated with Tech4Learning, Inc. to establish, develop, and expand the PhotoShare concept. PhotoShare has been renamed Pics4Learning to highlight its new identity. Since 1999, the image collection has increased from 7000 to over 30000, with 1 million students and teachers using these images in classroom projects each year.
